Apo-Allopurinol (Allopurinol) is given to patients suffering from gout and certain types of kidney stones to treat their condition. It may also be given to chemotherapy patients to prevent an increase in uric acid levels. This drug works by decreasing the body's production of uric acid. An increased level of uric acid may cause kidney problems and gout.

How should I use Apo-Allopurinol (Allopurinol)?

Apo-Allopurinol (Allopurinol) comes in the form of tablets, which are taken orally, with a full glass of water. You should take this medication once daily, or as directed by your physician. You may be directed by your physician to drink 8 glasses of water per day. Patients whose daily dose exceeds 300mg may need to take smaller doses throughout the day. Therefore, it is essential to consult your physician prior to commencing treatment with this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed.

What are the side effects of Apo-Allopurinol (Allopurinol)?
