The active ingredients stavudine and lamivudine belong to a class of antiretroviral drugs known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, which slow down and inhibit the spread of HIV. The other acvite ingredient, nevirapine is a type of non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor which reduces the quantity of HIV in the blood. How should I use Triomune (Stavudine/Lamivudine/Nevirapine)? Patients who have been prescribed Triomune (Stavudine/Lamivudine/Nevirapine) to treat HIV should follow the instructions of their physician. Patients may first need to be stabilized on 200mg of nevirapine and demonstrate sufficient tolerance to it, as a lead in dose of nevirapine is usually required for a period of 2 weeks. The dosage depends on the weight of the patient. Patients weighing less than 132lbs may be directed to take one Triomune 30 tablet twice per day, whereas patients weighing over 132lbs may need to take one Triomune 40 tablet twice per day.
