What is Imigran (Sumatriptan Succinate) used for?

Imigran (Sumatriptan Succinate) is used to treat the symptoms of migraines, such as headaches, light sensitivity, nausea and vomiting. However, it is important to note that this drug is only effective in treating headaches that have already begun, and will not prevent headaches from occurring.

How should I use Imigran (Sumatriptan Succinate)?

Patients should take Imigran (Sumatriptan Succinate) at the first sign of a migraine headache occurring. Take one tablet by mouth. If the pain is still not relieved, you may take another tablet after 2 hours if your physician has recommended this. Never exceed 200mg in a 24 hour period. Seek the advice of your physician before taking this medication, to determine whether or not this medication is suitable for you. Some patients, especially those at risk of heart disease may be directed to take their first dose in the presence of a physician.

• A heavy feeling or a feeling of pressure in the body
• Drooling or nausea
• Warmth or tingling under the skin

Other side effects of this medication may be severe and require immediate medical attention, such as tightness in the jaw or throat, severe chest pain that spreads to other body parts, a sudden numbness, problems with coordination, severe stomach pain and diarrhea or seizures.
