What is Tizan (Tizanidine) used for?

Tizan (Tizanidine) is used to treat muscular cramps, spasms and tightness occurring as a result of injury to the spine or various other conditions. This drug contains the active ingredient tizanidine, which works by blocking the nerve signals sent from the spine to the brain. This drug may also be used to treat symptoms of fibromyalgia.

How should I use Tizan (Tizanidine)?

Tizan (Tizanidine) tablets should be taken orally. Your physician may start you out on a low dosage, which may then be gradually increased. This drug normally starts to take effect 1 to 2 hours after it has been taken, and the effects start to wear off after 6 to 8 hours. It is sometimes taken every 6 to 8 hours, however patients should not take more than 3 doses in a 24 hour period.

You should always consult your physician before taking this medication, so that the correct dosage can be prescribed to you, and never exceed the dosage prescribed. Patients who abruptly cease taking this drug may experience withdrawal symptoms.
