Aricept (Donepezil HCL)
What is Aricept (Donepezil HCL) used for? Aricept (Donepezil Hydrochloride) improves the function of nerve cells in the brain. Aricept works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine (ah see til KO leen). People with dementia usually have lower levels of this chemical, which is important for the processes of memory, thinking, and reasoning. Aricept is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. Aricept (Donepezil) may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. How should I use Aricept (Donepezil HCL)? Take Aricept (Donepezil Hydrochloride) exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take Aricept in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your physician. Follow the directions on your prescription label. If you need to have any type of surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are taking Aricept. You may need to stop using Aricept for a short time. Aricept can be taken with or without food or milk. Take the Aricept regular tablets with a full glass of water. To take Aricept orally disintegrating tablet (Aricept ODT):
