What is Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP) used for? Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP) is used to treat coughing occurring as a result of the common cold and other breathing problems such as asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. It is a type of non-narcotic cough medicine which works by numbing the lungs and throat, thereby reducing the reflex in the lungs that causes coughing. How should I use Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP)? Patients should swallow Benz Perals (Benzonatate USP) capsules whole, with a glass of water. Never chew or suck them. Patients are sometimes directed to take this medication 3 times per day, or as prescribed by a physician. Use of this medication in children is not recommended. This medication may also cause other rare, but more serious side effects.
