What is Betagan Eye Drops (Levobunolol HCL) used for?

Betagan Eye Drops (Levobunolol HCL) belong to a class of medications known as beta blockers, and are used to treat glaucoma and other eye conditions such as ocular hypertension. These eye drops work by reducing pressure inside the eye. By reducing pressure in the eye, this drug can help to prevent blindness.

How should I use Betagan Eye Drops (Levobunolol HCL)?

Betagan Eye Drops (Levobunolol HCL) are administered directly to the eye. You should tilt your head back, look upwards and pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch. You can then apply one drop to the pouch, and use your finger to apply gently pressure to the corner of the eye, next to the nose, so as to stop the medication from dripping out. If you wear contact lenses, you should wait at least 15 minutes before replacing them.

What are the side effects of Betagan Eye Drops (Levobunolol HCL)?

Some side effects which may occur as a result of using Betagan Eye Drops (Levobunolol HCL) include:

  • Dizziness or headaches
  • Mild itching or burning in the eyes
  • Mild inflammation of the eyes
  • Fatigue
  • Muscular weakness

You should consult your physician immediately if any of these side effects persist, or if you notice any other more serious side effects, such as severe pain or inflammation of the eye, discharge from the eyes, breathlessness, a slow heartbeat, or an increase in weight.
