What is Cartidin (Diacerein) used for?

Cartidin (Diacerein), also known as diacetylrhein is used to treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis. This drug works differently than other non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It works by inhibiting the stimulation of a certain protein, known as interleukin-1 beta. It also may help to prevent the breakdown of cartilage, while at the same time relieving pain and reducing inflammation. It is also believed that this drug has a positive effect in slowing the progress of osteoarthritis in the hip.
