What is Duolin HFA Inhaler (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide) used for?

Duolin HFA Inhaler (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide) is used to treat patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and may also be used to treat asthma. This drug contains the active ingredients salbutamol, also known as albuterol, and ipratropium bromide.

Salbutamol helps to open the airways by helping the muscles to relax, and ipratropium works by blocking certain receptors, known as muscarinic receptors that can cause the airways to contract. This combination of ingredients can ease breathing when the airways tighten, especially when caused by chronic bronchitis.

How should I use Duolin HFA Inhaler (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide)?

Patients using Duolin HFA Inhaler (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide) are sometimes directed to take one dose 3 to 4 times per day, or as prescribed by their physician. Patients should shake the inhaler gently before use, to mix the solution. The mouthpiece may then be placed in the mouth, and the spray delivered. The patient should then inhale the contents, and hold their breath for 5 to 10 seconds. If you have been prescribed a second dose, you should wait for 15 seconds before administering a second spray.

What are the side effects of Duolin HFA Inhaler (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide)?

Duolin HFA Inhaler (Salbutamol/Ipratropium Bromide) may cause some side effects to occur, such as:

  • Headaches or a dizzy sensation
  • Nausea
  • Coughing or irritation of the throat
  • Tremors
  • Changes in voice

Patients should consult their physician immediately if any of these side effects persist, or worsen, or if any other more serious side effects occur, such as changes in vision or a rapid pounding heartbeat.
