What is Feliz (Citalopram Hydrobromide) used for?

Feliz (Citalopram Hydrobromide) is an antidepressant. It contains the active ingredient citalopram hydrobromide, which is a type of drug known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or SSRI. It is believed that a decrease in the amount of serotonin released from the nerve cells in the brain causes depression to occur. By helping to restoring the balance of natural substances in the brain, such as serotonin, this drug helps to treat the symptoms of depression. It may also be used to treat other conditions such as anxiety, OCD and body dysmorphic disorder.

How should I use Feliz (Citalopram Hydrobromide)?

Feliz (Citalopram Hydrobromide) tablets should be taken orally. Patients may be directed to take this drug once daily, either in the morning or in the evening, or as directed by their physician. In order to reduce the risk of side effects, your physician may start you out on a low dosage, and gradually increase your dosage. Patients should never abruptly discontinue taking this medication, as doing so may cause withdrawal symptoms to occur. Your physician may gradually decrease your dosage in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Never exceed the amount prescribed to you by your physician.

What are the side effects of Feliz (Citalopram Hydrobromide)?

Some side effects which may occur as a result of taking Feliz (Citalopram Hydrobromide) include:

• Dizziness or drowsiness
• Insomnia
• Fatigue
• Nausea
• Perspiration
• Blurred vision

Consult your physician immediately if any of these side effects persist or worsen, or if you notice breathlessness, a fast pounding heartbeat, stiffness in the muscles, fever, uneven heartbeats, seizures or hallucinations.

Patients who suffer from a prolonged or painful erection that lasts for more than 4 hours should seek immediate medical attention.

If this drug is used with triptans, such as sumatriptan or eletriptan, or other antidepressants, it may cause a serious condition known as serotonin syndrome. Inform your physician if you are taking any of these drugs.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have any allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
