What is Foratec (Formoterol Fumarate) used for?

Foratec (Formoterol Fumarate) is used to treat lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and the breathlessness, wheezing and other breathing difficulties caused by these conditions. This drug can also be used to prevent exercise induced breathing difficulties. It is a type of long-acting beta agonist which works by helping to relax and open up air passages in the lungs, thereby helping to make it easier to breathe.

How should I use Foratec (Formoterol Fumarate)?

Foratec (Formoterol Fumarate) capsules should be inhaled using a special inhaler, such as the Rotahaler or Revolizer. These capsules should never be swallowed. Adult patients suffering from asthma are sometimes directed to take 1 rotacap once or twice per day, and should not exceed 48mcg per day. If this medication is being taken for exercise-induced asthma, patients should take 1 rotacap 15 minutes before exercise. The dosage for other conditions and children is different from those listed here. Patients should always consult their physician before taking this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed.

What are the side effects of Foratec (Formoterol Fumarate)?

Some side effects which may occur as a result of using Foratec (Formoterol Fumarate) include:

• Headaches or a dizzy sensation
• Nausea
• Anxiety
• Insomnia
• Tremors

Patients should immediately consult their physician if any of the above mentioned side effects persist or worsen, or if any other more serious side effects occur, such as rapid breathing, muscular cramps, a fast heartbeat, pain occurring in the chest or fainting.
