What is Ixel (Milnacipran) used for?

Ixel (Milnacipran) is used in the treatment of depression. It is also used to treat the pain caused by fibromyalgia, such as that occurring in the muscles, tendons and other tissues. This drug is a serotonin-nonepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, or SRNI, which helps to restore the balance of certain naturally occurring substances in the brain, known as neurotransmitters. An imbalance of these substances can cause depression to occur. It is also believed that an abnormality in these chemicals is related to fibromyalgia.

How should I use Ixel (Milnacipran)?

Ixel (Milnacipran) tablets should be taken orally. The exact dosage varies, depending on the condition being treated. Patients should only use this medication if it has been prescribed to them by a physician. Once this medication has been prescribed to you, you should never exceed the recommended dosage. If you have been taking this medication for a long period of time, you may experience withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly discontinue taking this medication. Your physician may gradually reduce your dosage, in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

What are the side effects of Ixel (Milnacipran)?

Some side effects which may occur as a result of taking Ixel (Milnacipran) include:

• Dryness in the mouth
• Nausea, loss of appetite
• Constipation
• Dizziness
• Increased perspiration or flushing

Consult your physician immediately if any of these side effects persist or worsen, or if you notice painful urination, severe stomach pain, bloody stools, unusual bleeding, a fast pounding heartbeat, decreased sexual ability, fever, persistent nausea or vomiting, twitchy muscles or hallucinations.
