What is Nilstat (Nystatin) used for? Nilstat (Nystatin) is used as a treatment for fungal infections, including infections of the intestinal tract, mouth (oral thrush), skin and vagina (candidiasis). The active ingredient is a type of antifungal, which stops the fungus from growing. How should I use Nilstat (Nystatin)? Nilstat (Nystatin) may come in the form of capsules, vaginal cream with an applicator or oral drops. The oral drops and capsules should be taken orally, and are normally prescribed for treating oral thrush, and the vaginal cream is applied directly to the vagina, using the applicator, and is used for vaginal infections. If you are taking the oral drops, the normal dose is 1ml 4 times per day. You should use the provided measuring syringe to drop 1m into the mouth. Patients taking the capsules should swallow the prescribed amount of capsules with a glass of water. The length of time for which treatment is required is determined by your physician. If you are using the vaginal cream, the usual dose is one full applicator, (which contains 5g of vaginal cream), inserted into the vagina 1 to 2 times daily. If you are unsure of how to use the applicator, you should ask your physician. Continue to use this cream for the entire period of time for which it was prescribed.
