What is Nodict (Naltrexone HCL) used for?

Nodict (Naltrexone) is used to help narcotic addicts who have stopped taking narcotics stay drug-free. It is also used to help alcoholics stay alcohol-free. The medicine is not a cure for addiction. It is used as part of a treatment program that may include counseling, attending support group meetings, and other treatment recommended by your doctor.

Nodict (Naltrexone) is not a narcotic. It works by blocking the effects of narcotics, especially the high feeling that accompanies usage. It also may block the high feeling that comes with the use of alcohol. It will not produce any narcotic-like effects or cause mental or physical dependence. It will also not prevent you from becoming impaired while drinking alcohol.

How should I use Nodict (Naltrexone HCL)?

Nodict (Naltrexone) is typically prescribed to be taken once a day at a dosage of 50mg. Depending on your response or past condition, your doctor may increase the dosage up to 150mg per day. The tablets should be taken orally and swallowed whole. They may be taken with or without food and a full glass of water. Do not split, chew, dissolve, or crush the tablets before taking them.

What are the side effects of Nodict (Naltrexone HCL)?

Some side effects may occur while taking Nodict (Naltrexone). Any worrying symptoms should be reported to your doctor so that changes may be made to your treatment or medical services be contacted if necessary. These side effects may include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Insomnia
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Changes in mood
  • Changes in vision

Nodict (Naltrexone) will cause withdrawal symptoms in people who are physically dependent on narcotics. The treatment is started after you are no longer dependent on narcotics. The length of time this takes may depend on which narcotic you took, the amount you took, and how long you took it. Before you start taking this medication, be sure to tell your doctor if you think you are still having withdrawal symptoms.

Also reveal if you have any conditions that reduce the effectiveness of your kidneys or liver. Any blood conditions should also be disclosed.

Strictly use this medication as prescribed and follow all instructions provided by your doctor. Safe, suitable, and optimum dosage can vary and is dependent on the patient's health and medical history, as well as the condition you are treating.

Nodict may not be safe or suitable for all patients.
