What is Relenza (Zanamivir) used for? Relenza (Zanamivir) helps to relieve flu symptoms such as nasal congestion, coughing, a sore throat, headaches and fatigue. This drug may also be used to help prevent infection in somebody who has been exposed to the virus, such as a family member with the flu. Patients should note that as this drug works by stopping the virus from growing, it is not a replacement for the flu vaccine. How should I use Relenza (Zanamivir)? Relenza (Zanamivir) comes in the form of rotadisks which are inserted into the provided diskhaler and inhaled directly. Patients should follow the provided instructions on how to insert the medication into the inhaler. One blister of medication should then be punctured, after which the inhaler may be placed into the mouth and the medication inhaled. The exact dosage required varies, depending on whether the patient is using this drug to treat or prevent the flu. If you are treating flu symptoms, you may be directed to take 1 inhalation twice per day, at 12 hour intervals, for up to 5 days. However, patients should always consult their physician before taking this medication so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. What are the side effects of Relenza (Zanamivir)?
