What is Protektor Spray (Fipronil) used for?

Protektor Spray (Fipronil) is a spray containing fipronil, which is a type of pesticide. It is used on cats and dogs to help kill fleas and ticks and to help control infestation by these pests. This spray is easy to apply, and is waterproof 48 hours after application, allowing you to bathe your animal if required, and lasts up to one month.

How should I use Protektor Spray (Fipronil)?

Protektor Spray (Fipronil) should be sprayed directly onto your animal's coat, as directed by the prescribing vet. The amount of sprays required depends on the animal's weight. It is usually administered at a rate of 6 pumps per 2lbs (1kg). The vet will tell you the correct amount to apply for your animal. It may be applied once a month, or more frequently, depending on the seriousness of the animal's flea infestation. Follow the instructions of the vet.

To spray it to a dog, start on its left side, and spray the leg, chest, abdomen and the back leg. Repeat this on the right side. After this, the top of the chest, the back and tail should be sprayed, followed by the top of the neck. To apply it to the face, spray the liquid onto a cloth and rub it onto the dog's face. After this, you should apply it to the dog's stomach. Applying it to a cat is easier. You simply hold it gently by the neck to restrain it, and spray over its entire body, including the tail.

What are the side effects of Protektor Spray (Fipronil)?

If you apply Protektor Spray (Fipronil) to your pet, you should carefully observe it for signs of an adverse reaction. Although adverse reactions are generally not serious, owners should still note that this spray may cause mild itching or irritation to the animal. Take it to a vet if this happens.

Please Note

This spray is to be used externally on cats and dogs only. It is a veterinary product which should never be used by humans, and is poisonous if ingested.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by the prescribing vet while using Protektor Spray (Fipronil) on your animal. Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the animal and the condition it is being treated for.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain animals, it is essential you always inform the vet if your animal is used for breeding and is pregnant or lactating, as well as if it has any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if it is being given any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency veterinary care if your animal has any allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction in animals include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallowing.
